King Charles may not be a band, but he damn sure has enough personality to be considered one. Combined with the outlandish hair and outfits fit to come from Prince’s old closet the music Charles produces doesn’t seem to fit. A unique blend of folk-pop, psych rock blends and the slightest bit of imitated southern twang, the King’s sound a surprisingly mellow.

Hailing from London, he began writing music and playing guitar at age 17 because a new found love for country music. After a year in college he dropped out and formed the band Adventure Playground with disbanded a year later.

Currently touring with Mumford and Sons, while working on his debut album, King Charles creates a sort of mellow soundtrack that can appeal to several audiences given the mixture of sounds he presents with a single song. Inciting melodies and heartfelt lyrics probably brought on by long doobie smoking nights and several failed relationships King Charles sets an interesting addition to the number eight “bands you should know.”
